Terms of service
Last updated 20 September 2026
What this is
These terms are the agreement between you and the team that publishes Lumo (“Lumo”, “we”), for the Lumo app at lumostudy.app, and you can reach us at any time at studywithlumo@gmail.com. By creating an account or using the app you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use Lumo. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data and is part of this agreement.
What Lumo is
Lumo is a library of short, illustrated books read one card at a time. When you create an account you choose up to three subjects, and we unlock the first chapter of one book in each of them for you to read for free. Everything else is part of Lumo Premium, a paid subscription. You need to be signed in to read anything, free or paid. We add, rewrite and occasionally retire books, and which chapter comes free with a subject can change for new accounts.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You sign in with a link sent to your email address, or with Google. There is no password to remember, which also means anyone who can read your email can open your account. Keep that inbox secure.
- An account is for one person. Please do not share it or let others sign in as you.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, tell us at studywithlumo@gmail.com.
Lumo Premium
- Plans. Premium is sold as a monthly or an annual subscription. The price, and any tax that applies where you live, is shown before you confirm at checkout. Payments are handled by Stripe.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, monthly or yearly, until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Cancel at any time from Account, under “Manage subscription”. You keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again.
- Price changes. If we change the price of your plan we tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies, and it applies from your next renewal. If you do not want the new price, cancel before then.
Right of withdrawal and refunds
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to withdraw from a paid subscription within 14 days of starting it, without giving a reason. By subscribing you ask us to give you Premium access immediately, during that period. If you then withdraw, we refund what you paid, less a proportionate amount for the days you already had access. To withdraw, email studywithlumo@gmail.com from the address on your account. Outside that right, refunds are at our discretion, and nothing in these terms limits any refund the law gives you.
Using Lumo fairly
Please do not:
- copy, scrape, bulk-download, redistribute or resell the chapters, artwork or any other part of the app;
- use the content to build a competing product or a dataset;
- try to get around the paywall, the sign-in limits or any other security measure;
- reverse engineer the app, or interfere with how it runs for other people;
- use the app for anything unlawful.
If you do, we may suspend or close your account. Where the law allows, we do so without a refund.
Content and accuracy
Our chapters are short summaries written for general education. We work hard to make them accurate, we say plainly where something is unsettled, and we correct mistakes when we find them or when you point them out. Even so, we cannot promise that every chapter is complete or error-free. Nothing in Lumo is medical, legal, financial or other professional advice, and you should not act on it as if it were.
Who owns what
The chapters, artwork, design and software belong to Lumo or to the people who license them to us. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial learning while you use the app, and for no other purpose. If you send us suggestions or corrections we may use them freely; that is what they are for.
Changes and availability
Lumo is a small service, and we change it often. We may add, alter or remove features and chapters, and the app may be unavailable now and then for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. If we ever decide to shut down Premium altogether, we tell subscribers in advance and refund any prepaid time that would be lost.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Lumo at any time, and you can have your account deleted as described in the privacy policy. We can end the agreement if you break these terms or if we discontinue the service. Unless your account is closed for breaking the terms, any Premium time you have already paid for keeps running until it ends.
Our liability
We provide Lumo with reasonable skill and care, but, to the extent the law allows, without other warranties. We are liable without limit for damage we cause deliberately or through gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For other damage caused by ordinary negligence we are liable only where we have breached an obligation essential to this agreement, and then only for the loss that was foreseeable when you subscribed. Nothing in this section limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be excluded by agreement.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the country Lumo is operated from. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and nothing here takes those away. If something goes wrong, write to us first at studywithlumo@gmail.com; almost everything can be sorted out that way. We are not obliged, and do not undertake, to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top, and for any change that affects your rights or your subscription we tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Lumo after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree with them, cancel your subscription and stop using the app before they take effect.
